Oklahoma State Takes the Lead

Oklahoma State unanimously takes the No. 1 spot NWCA/USA Today Division I Coaches Poll, after defeating former No. 1 Iowa, this weekend 17-16 on criteria. That victory stopped the Hawkeyes win streak of 84 consecutive wins.

Oklahoma State unanimously takes the No. 1 spot NWCA/USA Today Division I Coaches Poll, after defeating former No. 1 Iowa, this weekend 17-16 on criteria. That victory stopped the Hawkeyes win streak of 84 consecutive wins.

Nebraska made the biggest jump of the week into the Top 10, moving from No. 14 to No. 7, by beating No. 8 Ohio State 18-16. The Huskers currently hold a 10-0 record on the season.

Rounding out this week’s Top 10 are: Oklahoma State, Iowa, Penn State, Minnesota, Cornell, Illinois, Nebraska, Ohio State, Missouri and Pittsburgh.

Making some movement in the Top 20 are the University of Wyoming Cowboys, they jump to No. 13 after an 18-17 victory over former Top 10 opponent Oklahoma (No. 12).

The NWCA/USA Today Division I Team Coaches Poll Committee is made up of one coach from each conference.  A number one ranking is worth 25 points and a number 25 ranking is worth one point.

This poll is based on a dual meet ranking.

A new poll will be released every Tuesday from now until the week of the NCAA Division I Wrestling Tournament and can be found at www.nwcaonline.com.

The National Wrestling Coaches Association, established in 1928, is a non-profit organization for the advancement of all levels of the sport of wrestling with primary emphasis on developing coaches who work in academic environments.   The membership embraces all people interested in amateur wrestling.

The three core competencies of the NWCA are: Coaching Development, student-athlete welfare, and promotion of wrestling.
