August 2020 Retired Coaches Update

By Paul White, Retired Coaches Director

Wow! School already back in session in my home state of Georgia. Whatever happened to school starting after Labor Day? Football starts in a couple of weeks, and we all hope and pray it goes well so we can roll into our winter sports and wrestling with no delays or cancellations.

We have 22 retired coaches who have committed to represent their home state as an NWCA Retired State Representative. The duties of these coaches are to assist the NWCA State Scholastic Reps in mentoring young coaches and wrestlers, assist in scholastic NWCA academies when they come to their area, assist in the NWCA coaching awards presentations and attend and recruit coaches for the NWCA convention.

States with retired reps are AL, FL, GA, MD, VA, TN, NE, NM, NC, SC, WI, CA, OR, OK, MI, OH, NH, VT, ND, NV, WV, MO. If you are interested in serving as a rep, please contact me at paul.white142@gmail.com or 678-316-7311.

George Way, our NWCA National Scholastic Director, told me that retired coaches in his area are meeting regularly in Pennsylvania. It sounds like a lot of fun and something our retired state reps may want to start in their state. George relays they are getting great turnouts for coffee and fellowship. Great way to keep coaches involved.

Joe Mcfarland, our Michigan representative, has started to form a retired coaches group in Michigan. Great job, Coach Mcfarland! Way to pay it forward.
