Williamsburg, KY – University of the Cumberlands Athletic Director Chris Kraftickhas announced that Jordan Countryman, the current Interim Head Coach for the men’s wrestling team, is now the new Head Coach of the Patriots as the interim tag has been removed as of Tuesday, January 15th. Countryman becomes the fifth coach in program history and has been serving as the top coach for the Patriots since August 2018.

“We are excited to announce Jordan as our Head Coach,” said Kraftick. “He has done a tremendous job in his interim role and we’re very excited about the future of the program under his direction.”

Countryman is in his second season with UC after serving as a graduate assistant last season where UC won both the Mid-South Conference regular season and tournament titles as well as finishing as the NAIA National Runner-Up. The fifth-ranked Patriots are 9-2 overall this season, including a perfect 3-0 mark in the Mid-South Conference. Cumberlands is also coming off of a third place finish at the NWCA National Duals meet earlier this month.

“I’m really excited about this opportunity and I’ve learned a lot over the past several months,” said Countryman. “This program has a great tradition and culture and I’m looking forward to continuing to be part of the leadership that helps it grows and build upon a great foundation.”

The Patriots are currently ranked fifth in the NAIA Top 20 Coaches Poll and have eight wrestlers ranked in the top 20 of their respective weight classes including Tres Leon, the top-ranked wrestler at 149 lbs.,  and reigning NAIA National Champion Hayden Lee at 125 lbs. Cumberlands has four reigning NAIA All-Americans on their roster and five MSC All-Conference selections.

Prior to Cumberlands, Countryman served as the head coach for Prattville High School from 2009-2017, where he led the team to three top-five finishes at the state tournament, coached numerous state placers, five state champions, and three All-Americans.

The Patriots will return to the mat Friday, January 18, when they travel to Marshall, MO to take part in the Missouri Valley Invite.
