July Retired Coaches Update
The NWCA is looking for retired coaches interested in representing their home states as official NWCA retired state representatives.
The retired reps would work closely with scholastic state reps in areas of NWCA membership, recruitment, retention, NWCA awards programs, as well as mentoring young coaches and wrestlers. At present, 21 states have a retired state representative. (AL, FL, GA, MD, VA, TN, NB, NM, NC, SC, WI, CA, OR, OK, MI, OH, NH, VT, ND, NV, and WV).
If you are a retired coach interested in becoming a state rep, please contact Paul White, at 678-316-7311 or email@example.com.
Remember to check out a register for the NWCA virtual Convention, July 29- July 31. The schedule and registration can be found at nwcaonline.com. There will be several sessions of interest for retired coaches.
As a retired coach in Georgia, I have stayed involved in wrestling by serving in several NWCA positions:
- State Scholastic Rep
- Sectional Scholastic Rep
- Scholastic Board Member
- National Director Retired Coaches
I have also served as President and Board Member for the National Wrestling Hall of Fame Georgia Chapter. As a retired coach, I have certainly gotten more out of serving in these positions than I have put into it. Another way that I have stayed involved is by being a volunteer high school assistant coach and team bus driver. Just a few ideas from an old coach with a new knee (had one replaced a few days ago ) about how to stay involved with wrestling.
