NWCA announces Ithaca College’s Nichols, as the Theraworx NWCA Coach of the Year for Division III

The National Wrestling Coaches Association is pleased to announce the winner of the Theraworx NWCA Coach of the Year Award for Division III, as Marty Nichols, from Ithaca College. The award is presented to the coach that has demonstrated outstanding effort throughout the season in developing and elevating their program on campus and in the community.

The award is sponsored by the NWCA in conjunction with their partner, Theraworx.

Congratulations to this year’s finalists:

  • Upper Midwest Region, Jim Moulsoff – Augsburg University
  • Mideast Region, Marty Nichols – Ithaca College
  • Lower Midwest Region, Joe Norton – North Central College
  • Northeast Region, Steve Hall – Worcester Polytechnic Institute
  • Central Region, Jamie Gibbs – Baldwin Wallace University
  • Southeast Region, Bryan Brunk – Messiah College

Coaching in his 22nd year at Ithaca College, Marty Nichols and the Ithaca Bombers amassed a 14-2 dual meet record and a 3rd place finish at the 2018 NWCA Multi National Duals, their highest place ever.

His team ranked 12th among NWCA Division III institutions in academic success. Marty and his Ithaca bombers wrestling team are active in the Ithaca community. The team helps fundraise and participate in the Chris Bordoni Mud, Sweat, and Cheers Run in Ithaca. This run helps to raise money for injured or fallen veterans and their families. Marty also spends his time working at local youth camps and programs through George Dentes Wrestling Club and Ultimate Athletics.

NWCA Executive Director, Mike Moyer, said, “Coach Nichols represents the gold standard in the educationally based coaching environment and continues to make remarkable differences in the lives of his athletes.”
