Oklahoma State, Iowa, Minnesota, and Missouri Advance to 2013 National Duals Semifinals

Manheim, PA – The NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals Championship Final got underway Friday evening at Williams Arena on the campus of the University of Minnesota.  Four top ranked teams advanced to Saturday’s semifinal round that will start at 1:00pm.

In a rematch of last year’s National Duals semifinal, No. 1 Oklahoma State met No. 8 Illinois in a dual that included several match-ups between ranked wrestlers. The Cowboys won nine matches and defeated the Illini 33-3.

In the second quarterfinal bout of the first session, No. 4 Ohio State matched up against No. 5 Missouri in a highly anticipated dual meet. The Tigers won eight bouts on their way to a 28-6 victory over Ohio State.  Missouri will face Oklahoma State in tomorrow’s first semifinal.
 
The second session got underway when No. 2 Iowa faced off against No. 7 Cornell. In a highly contested match that went down to the heavyweight bout, Iowa won five bouts and defeated Cornell 21-16.

The final quarterfinal dual meet included No. 3 Minnesota and No. 6 Virginia Tech. The Gophers received a spark when unranked Danny Zilverberg defeated #6 Jesse Dong at 157 pounds. Minnesota went on to win the dual 28-8 and will face Iowa in tomorrow’s semifinal.
