NWCA Executive Director Mike Moyer official statement concerning Arizona State
Mike Moyer
May 13, 2008
The NWCA is deeply disappointed in the decision to eliminate the ASU wrestling program. This wrestling program has had a storied past as evidenced by the fact it produced multiple Olympians, NCAA Champions, and All Americans. Quite frankly, it is unconscionable to think that any university administration could eliminate it.
Historically, this program played a vital role in developing high school, junior high, and elementary school teachers, wrestling coaches, and mentors. We believe that state funded schools, like ASU, have an obligation to provide activities such as wrestling that are deeply embedded in Arizona’s sport culture. You can be assured that the NWCA will take all necessary steps to get the ASU wrestling program re-instated.
