SCSU Wrestling Team Dominates River Clean-Up

10/5/2009 1:42:39 PM

For the 3rd year in a row the SCSU Wrestling team has volunteered to lend a hand with the Mississippi River Clean-up sponsored by the St. Cloud State University Outdoor Endeavors program.  This year 35 Husky Wrestlers participated in the clean-up.  Once again the Wrestling team dominated the river clean-up effort by representing more than 75% of the total participants.

The volunteers spent 3 hours on Saturday cleaning up the banks of the river surrounding campus.  The cold and wet weather did not deter them from doing their part in keeping the campus clean.  When asked about the weather and muddy conditions co-captain Tad Merritt said, “We came out here to do a job today, we can’t let a little cold and rain slow us down.” The volunteer’s bagged garbage and recyclable items from the river banks along with other miscellaneous items. “I think it’s important for us to give back to the campus and community,” said Husky Graduate Assistant Cy Wainwright.  “This is a beautiful campus and they should take pride in being a student here.”

The Husky Wrestlers will also spend time reading to elementary students, assisting at the St. Cloud Veterans Hospital and donating their time to youth at the area boys and girls clubs.
