  • Title IX Letter to CA Lieutenant Governor Garamendi

    2/24/2010 9:58:25 AM

My name is Ernest Ciaccio and I represent my fellow members of the Committee for the Preservation of California Collegiate Wrestling. I also know that I adequately express the feelings of hundreds of thousands of Californians who make up our current Wrestling community. These Californians are current and former coaches, competitors, and in many cases life long fans of Wrestling. I have spent the last nineteen years of my adult life amongst my wrestling brethren, and believe that they make up the greatest fraternal organization in the world. I have witnessed countless lives that have been changed as a direct result of Wrestling and the character traits that our sport helps to instill in its participants. While our sport has born Presidents, Politicians, Judges, Doctors, and many other successful members of society the opportunity to participate in Wrestling at the collegiate level has declined over the last forty years.

  • West Valley College in Saratoga, Calif. Needs Support

    2/11/2010 1:43:23 PM

West Valley College in Saratoga is about to drop wrestling which has been a part of the college since it opened in 1964. Jim Root has saved the program once, but now he will need even more help. Please read the attachments and follow up ASAP. We cannot afford to lose another wrestling program. The California Community Colleges are down to 21 programs. We are a struggling sport. I am not sure what the magic number is, but if we fall too far, they could conceivably drop the sport all together.

  • Call to Action: Save Duquesne Wrestling

    1/27/2010 2:03:45 PM

As many of you have probably already heard, the Duquesne University administration announced that it plans to discontinue Duquesne’s intercollegiate wrestling program immediately following the 2010 NCAA Championships. It is very important that the local, regional, and national wrestling community express support for wrestling to the Duquesne administration via emails, phone calls, or faxes. As important as it is to express support, we must be polite and respectful in any communications with Duquesne. Although this whole situation is unfair, our side will be penalized for unsportsmanlike behavior: we cannot afford to be rude or disrespectful.

  • The NWCA’s Plan of Action for Dropped Wrestling Programs

    4/28/2009 2:20:00 PM

The National Wrestling Coaches Association’s mission is to preserve, promote and protect college wrestling programs in all collegiate divisions. In recent months, there have been eight intercollegiate programs that have been discontinued after the 2008-09 season, thus eliminating opportunities for young men to participate at these institutions or even to finish their collegiate careers. Leaving a puzzle that needs to be solved, and asking the wrestling community what else can be done to save wrestling?

  • Norwich Call To Action

    12/22/2008 2:19:00 PM

Norwich University has decided to eliminate their varsity wrestling program at the end of this year. This is the second dropped wrestling program in the past week (Lawrence University has also dropped…we are working on contacting their coach for more information). With the current state of the economy, we can be assured that more carnage is on its way for All Olympic sports if we don’t mount a very aggressive “public relations” campaign immediately.
