HENNIKER, N.H. – New England College Director of Athletics Dave DeCew has announced today the hiring of Robert Watson-Powell as the new head wrestling coach.

“We were very excited to have a very strong pool of candidates for our Head Wrestling Coach position.  Throughout the time, Robert rose to the top as the best candidate.  He has a desire to continue with some of the good work that has already been done, while also infusing new ideas and continuing to build a positive culture of accountability.  His ability to recruit and develop student-athletes has all of us excited for the future of the program.”

Watson-Powell returns to New England College after a one-year stint at Iowa Wesleyan, where he was the program’s first coach.

“I am extremely grateful and privileged to return to New England College, as Head Wrestling Coach for the Pilgrims. I want to thank Athletic Director Dave DeCew and all members of the hiring committee for granting me this opportunity. I am very excited about my return to Henniker to work with many new and familiar faces. The success of this program is limitless and has only begun to scratch the surface in its first four seasons. I am looking forward to continuing that success, not only for the wrestling program but also for taking the Pilgrim’s athlete department to new heights.”
