ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Alex Depew has been named as the inaugural head coach of the Cedar Crest College wrestling program, as announced by Director of Athletics, Wellness and Recreation Dr. Allen G. Snook Jr. on Wednesday.
“I am excited to get Alex on staff as our first-ever wrestling coach,” said Snook. “His knowledge of the sport and strong connections to the local and regional areas will be critical as we build our program from the ground up. I can’t wait to get our program moving with Alex leading the group.”
Depew began his collegiate wrestling career at Kutztown University in 2009, where he started as a true freshman at 174 lbs. and was on the University’s winningest wrestling team in history. He then transferred to Millersville University where he started at 184 lbs. and served as a team captain.
Depew moved from competition into coaching, with stints at Wilson Area High School and Notre Dame Green Pond High School as an assistant coach.
During his tenure at Wilson Area, Depew coached wrestlers in multiple postseason tournaments, including six District XI Champions, two SE Regional Champions, 12 PIAA State Qualifiers and four PIAA State Place winners.
While at Notre Dame Green Pond as the head assistant coach, he coached four PIAA State Qualifiers and one PIAA State Place winner.
Most recently, Depew served as the head varsity wrestling coach at Pleasant Valley High School. He took over the program in 2021 and qualified the first wrestler to the AAA North East Regional Tournament since 2015.
“It’s an absolute privilege to be the first head women’s wrestling coach for Cedar Crest College,” said Depew. “I look forward to building a new tradition of excellence at an already revered institution. Ultimately, I hope to promote Cedar Crest with class and continue to promote and grow women’s wrestling.”
Depew graduated from Southern New Hampshire University with a bachelor’s degree in history.
