NOVEMBER 2022 | RETIRED COACHES DIRECTOR’S REPORT

by Paul White, Retired Coaches Director

Retired Coaches,

I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving. I am coming out of a food coma this morning but may have a relapse at about noon.

Well, I was not in the corner for the first time in 44 years when the Georgia high school season began. It was a little tough on this old coach, but all good things must end, and the time was right. The new young staff is doing a great job, and I am grateful that they want me to drive the team bus to matches. It is nice to be involved in a small way.

Dr. Julie Battle, a mom of one of my former wrestlers, and Dalton Battle, a current wrestler at Appalachian State University, have written a book, Wrestling 101, an introduction for beginning spectators of wrestling. Julie and Dalton started this book when Dalton was a youth wrestler and worked on it for several years, right up to his college experience. They cover all the basics beginning wrestlers and wrestling families need and want to know.

The book is 88 pages long and a must-read for parents and wrestlers beginning their wrestling experience. Julie and Dalton are looking for a publisher, and I am excited that it will be available in the future.

The NWCA is still looking for Retired State Representatives in about half of our states. The Reps’ job is to work with the NWCA Scholastic State Chairs, implementing NWCA initiatives in their state. What a great way to stay involved and give back to wrestling.

States needed are AK, AZ, CO, CT, DE, HI, ID, IL, IN, IA, KS, KY, LA, ME, MA, MN, MT, NJ, NY, OK, RI, SD, TX, UT, WA, WY. For more information, contact me at paul.white142@gmail.com or 678 316 7311.
